REVOLVER STUDIOS MISSION STATEMENT
We believe ALL bodies deserve to enjoy dance and fitness in an equitable and supportive environment.
We’ve observed, studied, and experienced first hand the ways in which a body-shaming and diet culture centered society has caused significant harm to all aspects of our total health. We know there is a better way.
At Revolver Studios, we strive to create and grow an equitable, community driven, body-positive movement space. We believe deep down in our toes that fitness must be accessible to ALL bodies. We believe in helping all people feel welcome and celebrated in the body they are in RIGHT NOW. We acknowledge that the fitness insustry has historically catered to thin, white, cis-gendered, heterosexual, able-bodied individuals. This means people who do not fit within those categories have been excluded; preventing the majority from experiencing the countless physical, mental, and emotional benefits of movement and a movement based community. We are committed to creating better access and representation of marginalized groups, specifically LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and people of all racial/ethnic backgrounds.
We practice and teach movement as a celebration of what we can do, not as a punishment or obligation. To challenge ourselves, set goals, and extend love, care and kindness to ourselves.
The societal standard of achieving a particular body shape and size as the primary purpose of exercise takes a tremendous toll on mental and physical health. We've been sold the message that our bodies are not good enough; they are wrong, unworthy, broken and in need of fixing if we ever expect to be happy, loved, or successful.
The truth is, you are not wrong or broken or in need of fixing. Our mission is to spread the message of worthiness. That each individual, regardless of their shape, size, ability, racial/ethnic background, gender identity, or sexual orientation is worthy exactly as they are today. Worthy of access to movement in a safe and supportive space. Worthy of respect, equality, and kindness. Worthy of being celebrated.
Society’s emphasis on shapeness also ignores the fact that the majority will never obtain the shape and/or size that has been deemed a "fit" or "healthy" body. Leaving the majority constantly feeling insecure, inadequate, and disempowered.
Our mission is to enthusiastically highlight the benefits of movement that have nothing to do with weight loss. We practice and teach enjoyment of exercise for the benefit of socialization, stress relief, better sleep, decreased anxiety, increased endurance, stronger muscles for daily activites, reduced pain and tension, and our personal favorite -- FUN. We highlight body-positive reasons to exercise to fight against fatphobia and the emotional, mental, and physical harm caused by body-shame and body-based oppression.
We are changing the way society views dance and fitness, and we’re starting right here in our own backyard. Revolver Studios is committed to creating space for ALL bodies to enjoy movement, as well as growing a safe, supportive, and body-positive community.
